Going back to the office. Are you ready?

While many of us are exciting about the news that 'the world is getting back to normal' after a year-plus of working from home, many folks are anxious and stressed about the thought of returning to the office.

In reality, we are not out of the woods quite yet but, based on the CDC's guidelines that those who are vaccinated no longer need to wear masks or socially distant, we are headed in the right direction. Even if we were totally safe, we would be kidding ourselves if we expected the next phase to be '"life as we knew it."

So what does that mean for the life of 'work-from-home' employees when they are required to return to the office? Employees are on the fence and so are lots of companies.

Many companies believe that the corporate culture has gotten lost over this pandemic-era as the in-office-chat-at-the-water-cooler conversations aren't being had. The casual, impromptu strategy or creative sessions aren't quite the same without the live, in-person activity. What about the drinks after work that results in a new brainstorm session? Lots of businesses have lost the creative juices that have fueled their successes.

As for the employees, isn't it every employee's dream to work from home? To roll out of bed at 8:59AM just in time for a conference call at 9AM? Or to 'actually' take a whole hour for lunch? Lots of employees have gotten into the work-from-home groove and are not ready to give that up.  It can be a culture shock to go from pj work attire back to corporate dress codes.  The stress of commuting and the anxiety of being around lots of people can be significant. Many employees worry about simply being back in the office setting around so many people.

Its another culture shift that we will all have to get used to...getting back to the new normal.
